The short version. This website is a brochure with a contact form and a consultation booking tool. It collects the details you type into those forms, plus ordinary analytics about how pages are used. It does not collect anything about your health, and nothing you enter here becomes part of a clinical record.
Therapy records are different. If you become a client, the notes and records from our work are protected health information, held under HIPAA and California’s Confidentiality of Medical Information Act, and governed by the Notice of Privacy Practices you receive at intake — not by this page.
1 · Who is responsible
This website is operated by Shawn Walters, Registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist, AMFT #138642, practising under the supervision of Christina Miller-Martinez, LMFT #105663, and employed by A Good Place Therapy. Questions about this policy can be sent to [email protected].
2 · What this website collects
Only three things, and each of them because you chose to do something:
| When | What is collected |
|---|---|
| You send the contact form | Your name, email address, and whatever you write in the message field. This is delivered to me by email. Please do not include detailed health information in it. |
| You book a consultation | Your name, email address, and the time slot you select. This creates a calendar appointment and an email confirmation. The booking tool also reads your browser’s time zone so the times shown are correct for where you are. |
| You simply read a page | Standard web request information — IP address, browser and device type, the pages you view, and where you arrived from. Some of this is handled by Cloudflare, which serves and protects the site. |
Bot protection
The forms are protected by Cloudflare Turnstile, which checks that a submission comes from a person rather than an automated script. It works without the puzzles and image grids that older systems used, and it does not track you across other websites.
Browser storage
The site stores a small amount of information in your browser’s local storage to remember your progress through the booking flow. It stays on your device and is not transmitted anywhere.
3 · Analytics and session recording
Three third-party tools are used to understand how the site is performing. They are named here in full because two of them do more than count visits:
| Tool | What it does |
|---|---|
| Google Analytics | Counts visits, pages viewed, and roughly where visitors come from. It uses cookies and sets a pseudonymous identifier for your browser. |
| Microsoft Clarity | Records how pages are used — scrolling, clicks, and a replayable reconstruction of the session — so I can see where the site is confusing. It is configured with masking enabled, which means text you type into form fields is hidden from those recordings rather than captured. |
| Ahrefs Analytics | Aggregate traffic measurement, used for search-engine performance. |
Being straightforward about the session recording. Microsoft Clarity reconstructs how a visitor moved through a page. On a therapy website that deserves saying plainly rather than burying: if you read a page about anxiety, grief or trauma, that page view is part of an anonymised usage recording. Your typed input is masked, and nothing in these recordings is linked to a name or to any client record — but if you would rather not be measured at all, the browser controls below stop it.
How to turn analytics off
- Most browsers can block third-party scripts and cookies in their privacy settings.
- Google offers a browser add-on that opts you out of Google Analytics on every site.
- Microsoft explains Clarity’s data handling in its privacy statement.
- Browsers that send a Global Privacy Control signal are honoured as an opt-out of any sale or sharing of personal information. Nothing on this site is sold or shared for advertising in any case.
4 · What this website never collects
- No health information. There is no symptom questionnaire, no intake form and no screening tool on this site.
- No payment details. No card number ever passes through this website.
- No advertising trackers. There are no Meta, TikTok or advertising-network pixels, and no retargeting.
- Nothing is sold. Your information is not sold, rented, or shared with data brokers.
5 · How the information is used
To reply to you, to schedule and confirm a consultation, to keep the site working and free of spam, and to understand which pages are useful. Nothing else. You will not be added to a mailing list because you used the contact form.
6 · Who it is shared with
Only the service providers that make the site function, and only to the extent they need:
- Cloudflare — hosting, security and bot protection.
- Google — calendar scheduling for consultations, and analytics.
- Microsoft — Clarity usage analytics.
- Ahrefs — aggregate traffic measurement.
- An email delivery provider, for form submissions and booking confirmations.
Information may also be disclosed where the law requires it, or where a therapist is legally obliged to act — for example a mandated report of abuse, or a serious threat of harm. Those duties come from California law and professional ethics, not from this website, and they are explained in full in the Notice of Privacy Practices provided at intake.
7 · How long it is kept
- Contact and booking messages — kept while we are corresponding, then deleted once they are no longer needed. If you do not become a client, they are deleted.
- Analytics — retained on the providers’ standard schedules, and held in aggregate rather than as an individual profile.
- Clinical records — retained as California law requires for licensed practices, and handled entirely separately from this website.
8 · Your rights in California
Under the California Consumer Privacy Act you may ask what personal information is held about you, ask for a copy, ask for it to be corrected, and ask for it to be deleted. You will not be treated differently for asking. Email [email protected] and I will respond within the timeframe the law allows.
Some information cannot be deleted on request — clinical records in particular are subject to legal retention requirements that override a deletion request. If that applies, I will tell you so plainly and explain why.
9 · Clinical records and HIPAA
This policy covers the website. It does not cover the therapy relationship.
If you become a client, your records are protected health information under HIPAA and California’s Confidentiality of Medical Information Act. You will receive a separate Notice of Privacy Practices at intake describing how those records are kept, who may see them, and what your rights are. Where that notice and this page differ, the Notice of Privacy Practices governs.
Therapy sessions are not recorded. Session notes are never stored on this website or in any tool connected to it.
10 · Security
The site is served over HTTPS, forms are protected against automated abuse, and administrative areas are behind authentication. No system is perfectly secure, and no honest policy claims otherwise — so please do not send sensitive clinical detail through a web form or by ordinary email. A short message asking to talk is enough; the rest belongs in a session.
11 · Children
This website is intended for adults. It is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has submitted information through this site, please contact me and it will be deleted.
12 · Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top of the page changes with it. Material changes will be noted here rather than made quietly.
